Sem 4 in Degree of Technology Maritime

A super heavy semester in my degree studies, taking 23 credit hours this sem, OMG. My class timetable is fully scheduled every day from 8am – 4pm. How I gonna go through this sem? Very stress and tension since kick start of this sem. Many new courses are introduced to us and proposal of Final Year Project (FYP/PSM) – the most difficult task is given to us. Time management is very very important at this moment.

23credit hours included courses:
1.     Navigation Science II
--- We learned how to navigate a ship to a port in Navigation Science I, continuous from that, now we learn how to navigate a ship at open sea. It’s a kinda interesting subject.

~ With this apparatus and chart, really bring tension to me ~

2.    Astronomical Navigation

3.    Astronomical Navigation Lab
--Learn to find the position of ship and learn to navigate a ship by astronomical. When a ship is black out, this is the most appropriate way. Study about planet and stars, wow, is interesting, but quite suffer, because I got none of knowledge about astronomical before this.

~ Sextant ~

~ To know more about astronomical, I borrow few books from library ~

4.    Marine Environmental Biotechnology
--I’m so bad in biology during secondary school and got very low mark in SPM. Why University suddenly pop up this course and make it compulsory for civilian student? Oh my god, can make me die one, should find medic friends to teach me J I’m so blur in the class, very hard to catch up.

~ Biology? Faint !!! ~

5.    Naval Architecture
--It’s actually a basic naval architecture subject introduced to us, a little bit about design of ship plus a little bit about engineering. I think this is quite difficult but compare to biology, this one is better, haha.

6.    Integrated Transportation System

7.    Cargo Handling System

8.    PSM 1
--Actually is a proposal of our FYP that need to complete it before going for    internship. With this, we need to come up with a suitable title to do our research. At the same time, need to find statistics and improve or create something new for the technology or surrounding for now. We are still blur and can’t find out a suitable scoop for FYP. FYP need a supervisor to guide us for sure, supervisor need to be very pro with our title. I’m very worry about FYP actually.

~ Bought buku panduan and borrow few books from library, hope can get some idea from here ~

9.    PALAPES training
--Besides than studies, we still need to undergo military training during weekend as our co-curriculum. Need to sacrifice some time for this. Now already in intermediate level. We get to training during weekend, according to the training schedule, estimate there is no mid sem break holiday for us. We have to turn up to training for one week.

~ Training time ~

~ Training attire ~

~ PALAPES UPNM ~

In year 2013, many new buildings here.

~ Bangunan Lestari is the latest building to use. But this building is very far from our hostel, lazy leh J

~ Bangunan Bestari that included of Faculty Engineering Faculty Science & Technology, Faculty Management and Foundation Centre last semester. Can you imagine how small is UPNM… ~

~ Our Perpustakaan Jeneral Tun Ibrahim (PJTI)>>> Click Here ~

~ Pusat Pembangunan dan Latihan Maritime, still in progress, will have simulator inside this building ~

~ Just starting of the work, Track Field will be build here, quite big, awesome, don’t know get the chance to use it or not before graduate ~

~ Our Pusat Marin UPNM ~

~ My hostel, Blok Srikandi ~

~ The great swimming pool ~

~ Blok Chanselori UPNM ~

~ Overview of UPNM~

Next semester, we going for our internship, so will be very this sem to prepare everything. We prepared our resume and list of companies that we interested to our faculty. Then our faculty will submit it to companies that related along with surat sokongan university. But until now, haven’t get any reply from companies, very worry about it. I think before internship, we also need to take certificate like Basic Safety Training Certificate (BST). At the same time, of course need to practice more on swimming la, hehe J PTPTN already received, but so many think need to buy, no money la. Want to join event need registration fees, attire and running shoes need good quality one, need to invest on accessories like sunglasses, nutrition, study reference books and daily expanses, really need to write down budget. If not, I think money from PTPTN can finish within one month. J Planning to buy a road bike, but put my eyes on account saving, cannot buy, please control !!!

~ New shoes --- BrooksPure Flow 2 ~

This semester I need to be very focus and concentrate in studies to get better result. But sport also very important for me. Many activities already came out with date. So, book my events and arrange my schedule.

March --- Larian Faculty, Penang International Duathlon 2013
April  --- MASUM
Jun   --- Final Exam
Julai > September --- Holiday, for sure will go travel ~~~

# GOOD LUCK in Sem 4 #

1st Year Degree Finished

Foundation year ended last year, 1st year of Degree in Technology Maritime also completed last month. Just in a clip of eyes, I studying in UPNM already past 2 years, living in a military camp, I went through all difficulties and also different lifestyle compare to outside. Last year, when I was a foundation student in UPNM, I was a full-time civilian student, wearing grey colour uniform with beret, walked in a group (like marching) to class, with a pair of empty epaulets on shoulders (for foundation student), no worries about seniors, just concentrate on studies.

~ My uniform during foundation year ~

This year, during 1st year degree, at the same time also enroll as a member of Reserve Officer Training Unit (ROTU). For ROTU, we got 3 types of training sessions: Local Training (Saturday& Sunday-twice per month), Continuous Training (1 week –twice per year) and Annual Camp (14 days included 10days spent in jungle). From that moment, I’m not more a full-time civilian student anymore, I’m turn to a part-time civilian student only. We live like a civilian student during weekdays and as a ROTU during Saturday & Sunday. But as a ROTU, we need to wear green uniform (like army) to class, I haven’t get my uniform no.3, so we need to wear uniform no.5>>> Loreng Suit with marching boots to class, really make me crazy. ROTU need 3 years to complete and commission as a Leftenen Muda (Young Officer), 1st year called Junior, 2nd year called Intermediate ,3rd year called senior and after commission called Yang Officer(Y.O.). I’m just 1st year in ROTU, so called as JUNIOR. AS usual, junior what, haha, you know la…. Culture in UPNM teaches us respect, cooperative among team and many more. When we meet with senior, we should greet them and ends with Sir/Ma’am. When wearing uniform, we need to salute officer and greet them. Talking about this, think back when walking to class, really very scared, scared of bump with officer, I get scold by an officer before, she asked why didn’t salute her, haiz, should be alert next time. Also once, I lazy to wear uniform to class, I just wear baju kurung to class (want to act like a civilian student), but they can recognized me, asked me why didn’t wear uniform, want to skip day from wearing uniform also cannot, so frustrated.  But, I knew I did wrong, wear uniform is kind of responsibility also, so next semester, if I get uniform no.3, I will wear it everyday, don’t worry. As a ROTU, we also got our military card called BAT C20, also got military number.

~ Full Loreng during Training ~

~ Epaulets during JUNIOR year ~

When in year 1 degree, I active in both sports and co-curriculum activities. I took part in many running events and always turned on to training sessions. For my co-curriculum, that is ROTU, I sometimes got skipped for local training if the date clash with my running events, but I presented full in Continuous Training and Annual Camp. Writing about Annual Camp just remember that I haven’t write the blog post about Annual Camp experience yet, oh my gosh, totally forgot. If you ask me “ Have you hold M16?”, “Yes, I did”; “ Did you live in jungle?”, “yes, 10 days straight”; “ Did you drink water from river?”, “ Yes, for sure.”; “ Did you experience the war?”, “ Ya, when we training in the jungle, got ambush actions.” and many more special experience. If interested to hear my jungle stories, I can explain to you. J Thinking back for 10 days life in the jungle, really very tension, but quite fun and interesting, been eating the rations for 10days, feels like wanna vomit when smell of rations now. In military, is “ One for All, All for one”, if one person do wrong, the whole platoon will be punished together. In military, no difference between girl and boy, all are same, carry same weight of bag pack, carry M16, and wearing same uniform.
~ My medals collected for one semester. ~

Besides than sport events and ROTU’s training, I also paid attention on studies, when active in too many activities, need to always remind myself in whatever condition also need to “ Play hard, study hard, enjoy hard”. Do everything also need to balance it and think twice for every choice. So, in Jun, I already completed my 1st year degree studies and finished 1st year, JUNIOR year in ROTU. From JUlai onwards, starts to shake legs and enjoy my holiday for 2 months++. Will be reopen school on 11 September, that time will be upgrade to become 2nd year degree student, INTER in ROTU, not more JUNIOR, while will got 2 batches of juniors to take care. At the same time, will got 2 lines’ epaulets on my shoulders already, but the responsibility more. For 2nd year in degree, I need to pay more attention on every extents, as grow bigger should know more and do better. Looking forward for my life in September onwards.

Living in Malaysia, a multi racial country, we have our own choice for our religion. Multi racial is the special part for Malaysia, but for sure it also cause of racist problem in Malaysia. UPNM is a smallest university, student capacity around 3000 people only, but still will grow bigger in future. If calculate, non- Muslims are around 50 people, Chinese just stand for not more than 30 people. You must be thinking how I survive there… Luckily I’m from a Malay kampung, if not, I think I will be too mental to stay there. For me, is not a big problem, but just sometimes hear people talking about religion problem ah, just close my ears and shut my mouth, act like nothing happen. This is the only way to survive, just endure it, time pass by, I have cross my limit of endure and achieve to the highest limit to endure everything, learn to handle everything with calm and peaceful mind. As a Malaysian, besides than know the culture practice in our religion, we should get to know culture for other religions too. For 2 years stayed with Malay and Indian friends, I know more about their culture now. Learn to respect their culture is not a bad thing. Not so close with Chinese friends in UPNM, because all of us are different courses and different year, sometimes, I never talk in Chinese for 1 week, I just talk in Chinese when I bump to Chinese friends there. At there, I usually use English and Malays to communicate with friends. To not let my Chinese level gone down, I used to read Chinese books and watch Chinese movies lo, got no choice. J

~ Full Set Marching Order (FSMO) during Annual Camp, 10days in the jungle ~

Got a lot of difficulties happen that people did not know, maybe people won’t understand also. Also got funny thing happen, it may creates some interest and laughter in my hostel life. I only build common friendship with friends in UPNM, My best friends are my 1st roommates. Besides than them, I got nobody to share my feelings. Only this blog is my best friend in UPNM, a window for me to share my experience and thrown out all my thoughts. Living in a place surrounded by Malays, I know them very much, but in real, we always have different thoughts. To refresh my mind and make sure to keep myself always updated with outside the world, I like to go shopping to “wash” my eyes and go for gathering with friends, but actually very difficult to plan a gathering.

~ My classmates, navy and civilian students ~

For now, i got holiday for 2 months++, I did a list-to-do, notice that so many things I want to do, but don’t know how many I can done. Just wait and see the chances come. I want to go bag pack travel (but difficult to find partners), cook delicious foods, do my newspaper-cut-assignment, learn dancing, read novels and many more… Happy holiday.J Another thing is my BIG DAY is coming soon. Before turn into full 20 years old, I wish myself can do something special or create some different thing in my life. What to do leh, got no idea.

~ At home, helping father to look after his shop, tea time, enjoy coffee with travel diary. ~

~ Attended one formal dinner at Star City Hotel ~

Program Training of Trainers

Program “Training of Trainers”, Kepimpinan Muda Kelab PEMADAM IPT was hold on 10-12 JUN 2011, event for last month, but now I just get to find out my time to write this post, timetable very pack recently. Training of Trainers (TOT), and PEMADAM IPT stand for Persatuan Mencegah Dadah Malaysia. I don’t know this program at 1st,but the day before depart to the venue, suddenly my counselor ask my friend to call me up and he said he want to train my leadership .Just because of I won in previous event for Club PEMADAM among all University, win for UPNM, then he get to know me from that moment. I learned something from that day, if you want to be well-known in one place, you have to perform yourself, so that you are needed by your university.

In program TOT, UPNM as host, and this program involved student from Universiti Islam Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), and Universiti Pertahanan National Malaysia (UPNM).At kem Morib.

Within 3days 2 nights, all students are very close to each other. We got seminar and talk about techniques, how to do well in public speaking, train people to talk in front many people with confident and affectively. To give a talk like lecturer or presenter on a stage that face to crowded people not so easy to all of us, it needs time and hard work to train. One of our hot activities was become a presenter and present to every students. I were too scared, never talk in front of crowded people.

Reached my time to present, I ready one paper that full written with my topic. After I greet all the judges, I nervous until the paper have been compressed by me. What should I do? Then, confident suddenly come over me and shining on me, I present with my power point without paper beside me, my 1st time to become a presenter run smoothly, seems like everybody can accept my talk. haha, next time can go out and do talk already. Actually, I like to give talk, I enjoy to stand in front of people, this is one of my dream, many topics run in my mind that want to let everybody know. Every student in this program took turns to be a presentor。

Another extra activity that can refresh our mind was play at the beach of Morib. So many crabs on the beach.

From this program, I learned a lot and get to know more people from other universities.

I have been joined activities of this club, after the TOT program, this club just launched, it was last month, I been choose to be a treasurer. Wow, just a foundation student in UPNM, so pleased get the chance to distribute for UPNM. This is the most valuable time to improve myself and perform myself. Once we stand in this world, please catch our opportunities and do whatever you want to do, future is in your hand. After the TOT program, I also notice that myself can talk more confident and smoothly.
