Standard Charted KL Marathon

Congratulations to myself, I’ve done my 1st 42km,second distribution in KELAB sukan Lasak UPNM.Before this, I’m very sensitive to see my senior wearing shirts printed “21km finisher” and “42km finisher”. Was wonder how they can make it, is it I can do it…? In my mind, I want to become a 42km finisher too, that’s my aim. Senior asked me before, “want to join Standard charted run or not”, without thinking, I answered “no, I’m not reaching that level yet”, that’s my answer. For me, my longest distance just 10km, haven’t achieve 21km, impossible I join for 42km’s run, haha. Before the day of Standard Charted run, suddenly got one cadet friend call me and ask me whether want to join them to that event. He said my job just cycling for fun to take photos. When I heard that, for sure I want, because can cycle cross whole KL. That night was quite a busy day, I was become a small reporter to write bulletin for my campus, I slept at around 1.30am.26JUN2011, I woke up at 2.30am to prepare for become a photographer. Around 3.30am, the bus departed to Dataran Merdeka (our starting point). Suddenly, my friend suggested me to run to replace one senior. Huh? Why they give a very big surprise in early in the morning? Wow, I think twice and think again. I calculating the estimation time, if 10km I run in 1hour, then 42 km I might be done within 6hours. Ok la, I join.

One lady accompany me to run this 42km. We run non-stop in 1st 10km.We run steadily, slowly, so that our stamina can maintain until the end. After 10 km, I still can control my breathing, every each km after 10km also break my own record, new achievement in my life before turn to 20 years old, haha. After 20th km, another lady already ran in front of me and I run alone behind…I started walking and feel hard to run back again. I trying to control my breathing, recall back what my senior teach me. Every time I trying to run back, in my heart, I want to rest when see another rest stop or reach next km. But everytime just 5 minutes I run back again, feel tayar pancit. On the way I running, I felt want to give up. But I want to get a finisher t-shirt, so I run. When I run, my aim will b the rest stop, because too thirsty and legs pain. In my mind, I want to find 100plus, I want water, I want medicine, I want cold sponge, I want ice cube. Argh….dont know how to be on the road for 6 hours. I apply medicine on my legs, to prevent from pain and cramp, I don’t want to be send to hospital by ambulance and cannot complete the run.

Through this event, I found that still have kind person in this world, so touched. Every time I stop, rest and massage on my legs, the runner cross beside me will look at me, and some of them asked: “are you ok?”, “do you feel pain?”, “need any help?”, stranger never treat me as good as that before. Maybe they see me still a young girl, pity me and want to help me, then I just reply them: “ im ok, thx.” Once, my legs suddenly cramp and like senget already, make me scare, coincidently one doctor cross by and apply spray on my legs. Relieve a little bit after can walk back like normal. Another one is I stop beside the road, one guy see me and show me one medicated gel: “you need this?”, oh, so good, he really read my mind, I took from him, and he continue to run. Each km after 30th km, I feel cramp, I don’t stop searching for the signboard of next km. Feel that 1km like 10km,so long distance. Oh my goodness. After that, When reach 35th km, I rest again, got one guy almost same age like me, ask me, “ r you ok”, already the 2nd time he asked me that question. Impossible I say to him I’m not ok de ma, rite? Then he run in front me already. Got one uncle suddenly stop beside me and teach me some physiotherapy to relieve my legs pain. Thx uncle. Then I continue to run, notice that the guy asked me for twice waiting and looking at in front there. I said to him I’m better already. He accompany me to walk and we chit-chat on the way back to finishing line.

We talked a lot of things, he is a third year student studying in IMU taking medic course, wow, future doctor. He is so gentle and friendly to talk with. I like the style on him. I know him at the last hour of our run, within that hour, we stop, rest and talk and run again, I encourage him and he encourage me : “run, run, run!!!” haha. Very humourous people.

Standard Charted kl Marathon really bring me a lot of nice memory and make me realize I can help people during the running time too. Thx.

“We run, not because of we want to win,

We run, not because of we want to get the jersey,

We run, not because of simply run,

We run, because this can be a healthy run,

We run, because we also can help people,

We run, because we want to test our mentality,

We run, because we got aim.”

Gun Time (aka Real Time or Official Time): The time from the sound of the starter's signal to the time the runner crosses the finish line.

Net Time (aka Chip Time): The time it takes to go from crossing the starting line to crossing the finish line. A timing chip (attached to your shoelace) records when you cross the starting line, which has a mat that activates the timing, and when you cross the finish line, which also has a mat to deactivate the timing.

I get the 42km finisher t-shirt finally. I can do it. Nothing is possible.I’m so happy I can change my status to become a 42km finisher from now on. Not every body managed to do it. I did it without training and any preparation. I finish it within 6 hours, not under my expectation. Before this, I think running on the road for 2 hours already is a torture for me, 42km, we run on the road for 6hours,it’s all depends on our mentality. Although on the way I run, I got felt want to sleep on the road, don’t know too tired or because of wanted to fainted, but I keep on ask myself to run, to prevent from fainted. I keep telling myself run, run, run, u can do it. Still a little bit to go, a little bit more…We can overcome every problems if we challenge ourselves. I did it, although I’m the champion, but at least I win myself, I break my record. Need one week to rest well and recover.
