Melacca Backpack Tour (Part II)

Continue from >>> Part I

2nd Day in Melacca
3rd Station – Muzium KASTAM, Muzium TLDM, Muzium Samudera

~ Morning Jonker Street ~

Another day, I didn’t want to waste my time, I woke up very early in the morning. Alan suggested me to the nearest restaurant to have breakfast. After that, I went to see the morning Jonker Street, many shops haven’t open but I can see the attractions too. I also went to Little India as my friend introduced to me about Discovery Guesthouse. Yeah, that guesthouse is quite good as well. I collected the brochures and may be very useful during my next visit.

~ Disovery Café& Guesthouse at Little India, very cheap also ~

I went to Muzium TLDM and Muzium Samudera, and I’m the 1st visitor for that day. Ticket costs RM6 can enter 3 muziums, worth it. Because I visit there alone, I didn’t know how to take photo, so I set the timer on my phone and take myself.

~ Muzium TLDM ~

~ Muzium Samudera ~

~ Have to take picture by timer, the effect was not too bad~

Very fresh to walk in early morning, I went to anyplace that attracts me. Saw the river cruise and the big castle.  Yeah, Melacca such a historical state really nice to visit.

~ Big castle, actually is a luxury hotel (front side + back side) ~

~ River Cruise and Melacca River ~

Before I left Melacca, I still entered shops at Jonker Street. Wow, too nice la. But I have to come back to KL. I s time to say goodbye to Melacca, will come back again soon. Still got many places I haven’t visit, still got many foods I haven’t try it. Satay Celup, Chicken Rice Ball, Nyonya food, Tangkak Beef Noodle, Yam Rice with Bak kut Teh, Fried Oyster and many more… Memorable days at Melacca I will never forget.

~ Many tickets and brochures I kept for my memory ~

Practise to become a newly backpacker, travel in Malaysia just the beginning point, will keep on planning and going for next station, next plan. Try to create my own stories in my life. In this trip, I learnt a lot. Always hoping can have a partner who can travel around the world with me. :)

Lesson learnt: Must bring camera during trip. If just by phone for calling and "photoing", must remember to bring extra batteries. For this whole trip, i just captured everything with my "super duper luxury" Sony C902. haha J

Sharing experiences and exchange information are always welcome. Knowing friends of bloggers and backpackers are my proud. *wink*

Where should I plan for next station?

Melacca Backpack Tour (Part I)

What made me stepped to Melacca actually? Melacca is a state that I wanted to visit for long time already, just wait for the chance. I didn’t want to stay at hostel that week, so I thought of pay Seremban a visit. But coincidentally my friend was busy, so I changed my mind. I planned to visit long-waited Melacca alone, haha. I decided this in very late night, my roomie also get worried about my sudden plan. With just 2 hrs time, I searched all Melacca’s travel information, hotels, famous places, foods, public transports and many more. Yes, I did homework before went there. I was quite scared to travel alone actually, but I have to. I woke up very early in the morning, 8.30am departed from KL-Melacca Sentral. On the journey to Melacca, I drafted my schedule and think of many things. I sent sms to one UTEM friend. He replied and I got a tour guide accidentally, that’s the good of having friends everywhere. J

~ Yeah, ticket bought (RM9) and heading to Melacca. Trying to become a newly backpacker as practice, starting point here, trying to bring my own stories to this world ~
[ KL-Melacca Sentral ]
Buy ticket at Terminal Bas Sepadu (TBS), range RM9 - RM12, 2 hrs journey, can rest for a while.

1st Station – Zoo Melaka, Muzium Orang Asli
I had to find my friend at Bukit Beruang, so change bus. At there, I can see MMU and had my very 1st lunch in Melacca. I met my friend there and one new friend introduced to me, they two are very funny. Then went to Melaka Zoo, entry fee RM10, spent 3 hrs with animals, haha. Near to Melaka Zoo still got many places to visit, such as Crocodile Farm, Taman Rekreasi, Aborigimes Musuem (Muzium Orang Asli) and so on.

~ A nice shop under big tree, the boss very nice person. Noodles there very special and delicious (特别推荐水饺,内有皮蛋噢,超好吃的,还有鲜草水,70sen 而已) ~

~ Long time didn’t go to zoo, like a little child new to zoo, hoho ~

~ Musuem Orang Asli ~

[Melacca Sentral – Bukit Beruang]
Bus No.11, RM2.00, 15 mins journey

[Melaka Zoo – Melacca Sentral ]
Bus No.1B, RM2.50, 40 mins taken

2nd Station – Dutch Square, Jonker Street

~Dutch Square, Christ Church,  Stadhuys~

As raining season now, so unluckily we had to become water duck, haiz, can’t take picture nicely. 3of us immediately ran into a shop to buy plastic raincoat, it costs RM3. Because of raining,  we took pictures with the ugly raincoat, why it rains!!! We straight proceed to next location, Jonker street, the crowded street in Melacca. Jonker street very crowded during Saturday and Sunday nights, MUST VISIT. To escape from rain, we entered a restaurant at 1st. So many people inside the shop but their efficiency is very good, foods are served very fast. After that, rain still don’t want to stop, but we also just walked under the rain. Night scenery along the Jonker Street is very very beautiful, with the lights of every shop, with the crowds of people, I like it so much.

~ Nyonya Laksa, Nyonya Cendol, Mihun Sup, and noodles ~

Later on, no rain anymore, yeah, can walk along the Jonker Street freedomly without raincoat. But my cellphone created problem for me at that moment, it was out of battery!!! With the condition I haven’t found my place to overnight, sky already turned black, why my cellpnone played with me. At that moment, you can feel the helpless when you travelling alone.  I can’t get to snap beautiful scenery of Jonker, very bad. Many foods we tried along the street and I entered any shop that attracts my eyes. J I feels like wanted to buy many cute things, but I had to control myself. STOP my hand!!! When the rains stopped, people started to join the crowd in Jonker, very difficult to move, but I like the crowd. Coincidentally got dance show at Jonker stage, we find a restaurant to sit and enjoyed the show at the same time.

~ Night nice scenery at Jonker Street ~

~ Pork Satay RM0.70 for one, very expensive and Ikan Bakar(photo lost) ~

While waiting for the foods, I decided to go and search for my room. One person at outside, accommodation is the most worried part. My UTEM’s friend suggested me to stay at their girl friend’s room, and they already contacted his girl friend, and also permitted by their friend. But I felt like their place kinda far away from town and I didn’t know their friend somore, paiseh neh. J I heard that at area Jonker Street got many guesthouses and hotels for backpackers and also visitors. So, I went one by one hotel to ask for empty room.  Maybe because of weekend, too many people, many hotels were fully book. Me and my friend went for 1st street, 2nd street, 3rd street to find for a room. Finally, fate with Jalan-jalan Guesthouse met. When I almost gave up for finding room, I suddenly saw a blue wood house with little-opened door, a guy fixing the door inside the house. I think twice and saw a word “ Jalan-jalan Guesthouse” and “ Rooms & Bikes”.

~ Durian Puff and Yogurt Puff, 6 pieces for RM8. Super duper delicious ~

I wave to that guy behind the door and he opened up to welcome to me. I still can jokingly ask him, “is this house a hotel or what?” Haha. He said is a guesthouse. Then i ask for the price. He showed me the rate and the room. Luckily there was still got one single room left, it was for me JIn my deep heart, I think I found the guesthouse that I dreamed for as a backpacker. I decided to stay here, I like the environment. Actually the guy behind the door is the boss of Jalan-jalan Guesthouse. J I book a single room and only cost RM28 per night, very cheap. Around 11pm, I checked in to Jalan-jalan Guesthouse, the house already in dark light, in sleeping mood. When I entered the house, I felt peace and harmony, felt very safe live under that house. After I’m safe to the house, my friends also back to UTEM. Really thanks for them to accompany me for the whole day. I rest in my new room and rewind back of my day in Melacca. Plus, I also drafted about the plan for next day. 0100H, light off!!!

~ Nice room for backpackers and the souvenirs I bought ~

~ Jalan-jalan Guesthouse, I like the decoration ~

Facilities at Jalan-jalan Guesthouse:
-          Bikes Rental
-          Free Wifi for 30mins per day
-          Free coffee and tea
-          Travel books search
-          Many more

Nice memory to stay at Jalan-jalan Guesthouse. May be is the fate let me overnight at there. Nice service and still I like it very much. Will come back again. Guesthouse is a place can let backpackers exchange information and share experiences. Before I left, I paste 1 message on the message board. Felt great to have a memory as a backpacker.

Putrajaya Lake and Wetland Explorace

~ UPNM participants~

The worst event that I joined. 29 and 30 September 2012, I’m one of the team took part in this event with my partner, Qalilah.  For the 1st day, got many checkpoints, if not mistaken are 8 checkpoints. Many disciplines included in this event, likes running, cycling and kayaking. We had to do puzzle to complete a photo of fish then find out the name of that fish, collect kinds of flora in underbrush and swamp. Oh my god. This game didn’t put in different category, every teams in open category. The game started at 9am, we struggled to get good timing. My team used 4 hrs to finish the race. For the 1st day, the race distance was around 10km.

~On the 1st day, my team came in placing no.9 in overall and we were the 1st ladies team. ~

Overall are 120 teams in this race, every teams did very well. Some of the teams completed it within 7 or 8 hrs. Fine. The another day, around 100 teams that were qualified to enter final stage joined the race. The final stage was just around 2km to complete. They flag-off earlier 5 mins for top10 teams on the 1st day, my team included. Besides that, there was NO other benefits for winners for 1st stage. During final stage, spent quite much time for 1st checkpoint. When we run back to the finishing point, I heard one guy said: “ Asal mereka jogging pun nak laju sangat?” Haha. Bro, we are not jogging la, we are chasing our prize actually. The prizes were given until placing 20th, but my team unfortunately get placing 23th. Haiz, so sad.

~ Everybody took a rest after the game ~

~ Fish sample, haha ~

I said this was the worst race I joined because I didn’t know why they want to differentiate to 1st stage and final stage. The winners of top20 for 1st stage and final stage were totally from different teams, while the prizes were just given to winners of final stage. What for every teams suffered for 6 or 7 hrs in 1st stage? I didn’t understand. I think there will be no different if they do the race in just one day lo. They organize event like this make me feel like is useless I struggled in the 1st stage lo.

IMSMART 2012

~ 1st attempt when see the sea, in Terengganu leh….~

International Marine Science and Maritime Technology Undergraduate Symposium (IMSMART 2012) is the name given. The 1st symposium I ever join for my course. 19-21 October 2012, total of 58 students and 1 lecturer went to IMSMART that hold in University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). With an excited feeling, hope to get knowledge from IMSMART and get to know more people in maritime field. 3days before to UMT, our lecturer asked us to have some distribution for university as we sent biggest contingent to IMSMART programme. Got two choices: Oral Presentation and Poster Presentation. The scope is under4 main parts: Marine Sciences, Maritime Technology, Maritime Management and Nautical Sciences. I thought I just want to be a participant in beginning, but after think twice, I decided to take part in Poster Presentation, atleast  got a little bit distribution la. With the quick blink in my mind, I get the idea about Titanic incident. Within 3hours, I need to send an abstract about my topic for my lecturer, I decided to do about Ferry and boat crashed on Lamma Island that got a little bit similar to Titanic incident. What will come out for my poster with 1-day work?

~ Before depart to Terengganu, everybody with a wide-open-mouth ~

~ Our hostel at Scout Inn Resort ~

Oral Presentation
This is an international programme, many countries sent their students as well, while Malaysia students from UMK, UPNM, UMT, UNISZA, USIM, UKM, IIUM and others. There were many oral presentations from students, many knowledge I learnt from there, many more knowledge that we need to learn from them. It was really a new world for me, found that our maritime level still far behind from them. They are all final year students, they presented their final year project, while UPNM sent 2nd year students, we were just submit a simple case study. Wa, maybe we have to pay 10times harder to learn maritime knowledge. It was an open-eye event for me. When hearing to presentation for the whole day, and attending conference IMSMART, when chatting with friends, everybody talking about maritime things every momet, I felt like I’m the real sea people already. That was a really very nice moment, feels like studying in a maritime situation really make you think that “Yes, my dream comes true soon”, how good if everyday can study under such situation, quite challenging but its fine, I like it.

~ UMT Hall for whole programme ~

~ The moment Arif and Tom represent UPNM for Oral Presentation ~

Poster Presentation
Comes to Poster Presentation, is my part J After submit the abstract for my poster, I did some drafts for my poster. I don’t have any idea to do the poster, blank. For the 1st time need to do a poster individually was a hard time for me. After searching for software that suitable, I choose Microsoft Publisher to create my A2 size poster, pretty huge poster. In the poster must contain: Title, Objective, Methods, Results and Conclusion. I don’t have so much time to do the poster as many assignments and presentations are waiting me to do, I just briefly know the incident by externally. I completed my poster by 3am, and submit to my lecturer. My lecturer said OK, then I’m also OK la, last minutes work what. Luckily lecturer is a good person, she knows UPNM’s students don’t have transport, so she helped us to print out the A2 size poster.

~ My poster entitled: “Titanic Incident happen again on Lamma Island?” ~

This poster is about a Ferry and a boat crashed on Lamma Island, Hong Kong. Lamma IV sank after the accident like a titanic ship on 1 October 2012. And got stories inside this poster and I don’t want to do further explanations about this la J I met one gang of Chinese students from UMT who are taking Nautical Science course. Teng told me, when we sent our abstract, secretariat already see through all the titles. They found that my topic should be very interesting, so secretariat and the organizing team got do deep research about my topic. When they see my poster, my poster just shows a simple and external view about Lamma incident, didn’t do deep research about this at all. Can categorized as a fail project la. Oh my god. Students from UPNM sending posters about a simple case study, while the organizing team expect us to create something new from our research and found something different from our case study. We didn’t know J I just knew that actually I choose a right topic, an interesting topic but just need to find out something new or discover some secrets behind this incident. After this, I should do deeper research n this topic. ^.^

~ Presenting my poster  ~

~ People inside the exhibition room ~

After IMSMART, I get the lesson learnt. Haha. Through this programme, I also get to know some new friends. Is good to get friends in maritime field, so that can exchange notes, knowledge and experiences.

~ New friends from UMT ~

~ New Friends [ From right: Teng(UMT), Me, Mei Peng(UKM), Kevin(UPNM), Yalweis(UMT), Martadinata (Indonesia) ]

Ending of the programme, got a “Culture Night” for everyone. Yes, I’m so happy to join this event, was a right time to let me mix into maritime field. Hope next time can go for more maritime conference.

~ Culture Night Dinner ~

~ UPNM Contingent ~

Sunday night after culture night, when on the way we went back to UPNM, all ladies were arranged to sit in a van. Just started our journey not more than half an hour, tyre get flat. Oh my god, for the 1st time i'm sitting in a van until tire pancit. The van stopped immediately by the roadside. Plus raining that time, god also didn’t want to help us. I just felt that the god gave everybody a lesson for our trip. Actually got something not happy happen during this trip, “October Tragedy”. Aiya, just forget about it. After that, bus driver tried to change with spare tire, but the zag can’t carry up the van. So, the van was tow back to KL. Really was a terrible ending for our trip. Luckily nobody injured. 2am leave Terengganu, 8am just reached UPNM, and other friends reached UPNM later, by bus and another van and few by the towing truck. Finally everyone reached safely.

~ The tire in a terrible way ~

~ Even raining, guys had to gather their team energy to carry up the van to change tire. Thanks for thaeir kindly help, really appreciate it.~

2nd Year Degree Student

Holiday Part
Is time to say goodbye to holiday, what I did in previous 2 months holiday? I spent 2 months holiday without planning, just help out my father in shop, surf internet, met with friends and do D.I.Y Travel Booklet. During my holiday, Raya fall between that period, so my shop was in peak business time that time, I was like a part-time promoter in the shop. Holiday without assignment, work, training, tension, marching really like a real and stress free holiday plus no need to wake up early. Before holiday, I  thought want to become a full-time chef at home, but everything get inversed, my aunt become the full-time chef at home while I just fed my stomach until fat fat, gain weight man. When get bored at home, I do my D.I.Y Travel Booklet. Actually this was my long-planned project. I kept all the paper cutting newspaper on things that I interested to since few years back, there is a heap of newspaper beside my bed, but every time got no time to do it.

Yes, this is the right time, I decided to start my project on the holiday. I classified the newspaper cutting into many categories: Travel, Food, Sport, Star Idol, Special Incident, Stylish, Home…… I can’t do all in one time, so I just choose the most needed one, Travel Booklet, it also divided into 2 types, Malaysia and Overseas. I want to D.I.Y, so I use an old sketch book, a book that already turned into brownish-yellow colour. I wanted to find a book that bigger than drawing paper, but thinking it will be very difficult to bring along to everywhere, so just use drawing sketch book.

~ Although my 2-months holiday already ended, but my work still haven’t complete, will continue soon, seems like my productivity very slow right?JNot like that la, I just want to produce a “high-class” D.I.Y Travel Booklet~

~ Here shows to you sample of my D.I.Y Travel Booklet ~

~ When free, just give a call to friends, enjoy dinner together, chit chat and play millionaire game on Ipad ~

~ During holiday, everyday just looking at computer, of course my internet time is  for T-ara ~

 ~ Sushi that I made ~

~ Spaghetti ~

~ My hobby is to collect medals, I do a big change to hang up my medals. I asked my mum to buy me the iron rod that we used to hang towel. A nice view, u guess how many medals over there? >50 or <50 span="span">J
All of this is my own medals, it shows my achievements ~

During holiday, I also went to Hatyai 1 day trip
Just like this, my holidays ended…. Comes to a new year, a new sem.

2nd Year Degree Student
Do you think I look like a University student? Haha J Just in a blink of eyes, I already studying at UPNM for 2 years more, not dare to think back how I went through my life here. Just can say studying foundation year and 1st year degree here was not using an easy way to went through. Only UPNM’s students will know the bitter in here. Well, students here always prepared with strong mentality and good physicality. UPNM with more muslims friends compare to Chinese friends, quite a different way to survive. If want to choose boyfriend, not so many choices, but Chinese cadets here looks smart and nice J

~ The grey uniform we wore during foundation year, but this grey uniform just keep in the wardrobe, useless ~

~ Before I forget, I need to thanks to someone. On the 1st day of school reopen, I received this Tupperware that contained of kaya cakes made by my ex-ex-housemates as my 20th bezday present. J ~

New semester, of course everything need to change to new one also, likes start a new life, forget about the past.

New subjects
This semester is quite a heavy sem for me since I already enter half of my degree course. This semester, 21credit hours for me, with 6 subjects which are 3 credit hours, plus PALAPES.  I think I’m gonna die fast soon. Subjects I taking included:
-Navigation Science
-Marine Technology System
-Ship Maintenance System
-Maritime Law & Enforcement
-Integrated Logistic System
-Human Resource Management

~ Navigation science is very very important, it teaches us how to navigate a ship. But with this lab apparatus, feels like fainted. Got chart, parallel ruler, compass, protector, divider. Everytime open up this chart, I faint already ~

New Uniform # Intermediate
As I already upgraded from JUNIOR to INTERMEDIATE in PALAPES, so got 2 lines on my shoulder. From last time bloody junior, went through all difficulties, now feels relax a little bit, got one batch of juniors under us.

~ Last sem, we haven’t get uniform, we wore loreng to class, wa, can’t forget that moment which wore loreng to class everyday. ~

~ Now, finally get the nice and smart uniform~

~ Apaulets that show our year, 2 lines means year2, 1line means year1. ~

~ When wearing uniform, of course also need a pair of shine shoes. Bought new shoes. ~

New Laptop
Erm, follows by the development of technology, if you don’t have a smart phone, maybe people will say you outdated, if you don’t have a phone, people will say “ impossible la”, if you don’t have a laptop, maybe people will ask “ are you a student” haha J. Laptop is really important for a student la, not only to do assignments, but also watch movies (hostel lifestyle), online, play games and many more activities on laptop. I used a notebook since foundation year until year 1, then my younger sister take over and bring it along with her to polytechnic. Before school reopen, parents brought me to a computer shop and…… I bought one laptop. Hooray, thanks to my parents. A 15.6 inches wide screen, white colour, smart, I satisfied with it, branded Toshiba. This laptop will company me for whole degree course as my soul mate as I type all my secrets inside laptop, my laptop knows all my secrets. J

~ Nice laptop ~

New room # roommates
Comes to new semester, we changed room again, move to new room, settled down everything, just 10days. After that, we were asked to move to another room again, haiz, move to new room again and stay until now. I get 2 new roommates, they are nice and friendly. Got one funny story, haha, one day, we got Stand By Bed, PALAPES officer did inspection, and OC saw my bed sheet and ask “ Teh, ni bukan budak lelaki yang pakai saje ke?” Then I just smiled. Because I’m using Spiderman bed sheet J Cannot blame me ah, my house just my younger brother using singe bed, that’s why I brought that be sheet, also can reminds me of childhood time. Haha. Then, when I went back hometown, I asked my mum to buy a new one for me.

~ Stand By Bed layout with cute spiderman bed sheet ~

~ Study Table with my books ~

~ Nice layout with a new bed sheet J ~

Extra
