~ UPNM Contingent ~
A week after MUDS 2012, was my 1st time to join
adventure race. On 3 Jun 2012, continuous race non-stop during weekend for 1
almost month, because I’m on the way to build strong stamina and running,
cycling skills, so not a big trouble for me to join adventure race, just need
to cover my mental problem. Putrajaya Urban Adventure Challenge 2012 was the
event organized by Malaysia adventure challenger. In this adventure race, need
to complete 6 disciplines of sports, there are Running, Cycling (mountain
bike), hiking, swimming 100m, kayaking and last is biathlon. This is a pair
group event, every group got 2 persons. The funny part of this adventure race
is we need to wear cycling helmet from starting point until finishing line,
even when you are running, swimming or kayaking also need to wear it, is a must
J. The overall distance is about 45km.
~ Goodies for this
event ~
A day before the event, we went for race briefing, saw many
athletes at there and most of them are military personnel. By the way, I forgot
to introduce my partner. He is also military personnel who always active in
adventure race and triathlon event. We joined Mixed Open category. His job is
to pull me when I’m exhausted. My coach helps to do the rope with bicycle tube.
This was my 1st time joined adventure race, very nervous actually.
Started from starting line, I ran without rope at 1st, then when
goes to hiking, all are mountain, so he gave me the rope and I round it on my
waist. When he pulled me, really speed out very fast and took over many groups,
at least already make a big gap with other mixed open teams. Then I just
maintain my speed. When comes to mountain biking, I nearly fainted when see the
route. The route go up hill, go down hill and cycling on the sand and stones.
Wa, very hard to cycling on sand and stones, until my hands shake, the bike
shakes and my head shakes as well. Thinking when lah the race can endsJ

~ Running 5km, can see
how he pull me? ~
When swimming, I actually don’t know how to swim, but
everybody must wear life jacket and helmet. The 1st partner went to
checkpoint once then another partner just went to the checkpoint again. But my
partner has to pull me swim to checkpoint, so my partner swam for 2 times.
After that continue to cycle again. Then we went for kayaking, need to complete
1km of kayaking, really made me very tired, luckily my partner managed to
maintain it. After that, went for the last discipline, biathlon. Biathlon is
the most difficult part, one partner has to run while one partner need to cycle,
just 2partners and one bicycle reached at the finishing line. For sure my
partner laugh at me when he see I’m too tired J I cycled on mountain bike while my partner ran for the whole
last 3km. I tight up the rope on my bike to pull him to run, it works, but
seems like I cycled slower than him when went up to hill. Yeah finally reached
finishing line, 1st place was taken by one pair of super duper
strong elites, 2nd taken by my coach’s team, 3rd place’s
winner played trick, 4th place took over my team before 200m to the
finishing line, so my team got 5th place, we finished it in around 3
hours more.

It was a memorable experience for me, at least I joined
adventure race to feel the challenge of endurance sports. Thanks to my partner
who pull me and supports me a lot in this game, if not I don’t think I can win.
